Migration Reintegration

The Challenge

NGO storytelling often struggles to bridge the gap between technical data and human experience. For the International Organization for Migration (IOM), I was tasked with documenting migrant reintegration programmes across El Salvador, Brazil, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Serbia. The goal was to create a cohesive multimedia narrative that showed the success and struggle of individuals returning to their home communities after long absences.

The Approach

As both photographer and video director, I implemented a unified visual language across four continents. There is no one-off solution for migrant reintegration. Solutions depend per country and person, that is why we focussed on a variaty of solutions that IOM offers; community support systems, entrepreneurial support, skill development etc… By directing video alongside stills, I ensured that the IOM had a consistent "visual truth" for their global advocacy campaigns.

The Impact

These case studies and films have become vital assets for IOM’s donor engagement, internal training and international reporting. By shifting the focus from "statistics" to "stories," the project helped humanise the migration discourse, providing the organization with powerful tools to secure continued support for reintegration initiatives.

Video Directing

Besides photography, I led human storytelling video recordings by directing and interviewing on-site in each of the five countries.
